Well don't be a Lurker here! Contribute as much as you can! And yeah we're slowly borrowing a lot of a.c.'s best and brightest ;)

And thanks for the twitter follow! Maybe I'll have 20+ followers by October at this rate :)

Thanks, I was a long-term lurking member in the AC forums (rarely contributed because I was still getting my bearings) and it is good to see so many of the positive usernames/members from there in here. Lately I have been using androidforums.com in lieu of AC, for a number of reasons, but mainly the site is laid out more logically/clearly and there are a lot of noobs over there that need help (the Galaxy S GPS fix/Froyo is like Cupcake all over again, but with less knowledge than that debacle at AC as a lot of the posters are Joe Shmoe who just traded in his blackberry or iPhone). I remember what it is like and I want to help, but I'll admit it gets frustrating when they just dismiss what you say, as if they have been around it longer than you have- I am just do glad you guys were so patient over there.
When I saw on twitter that djunio had started this forum, I thought maybe the drama and bloat of AC had gotten to him as well, and was hoping to see some familiar handles in here.

You're exactly right but I love AC and ever member there, I enjoy helping people and learning from them as well. My main reason for backing off AC is issues with the top brass not the members. As you may remember I was the senior editor there for the entire year almost and I'm an administrator in the forum still. I wanted to create a place that's open to suggestions and Really listen to the community. I will never be the type of person that's only around for money. You will see me in the forum often no matter how big it gets not just when I want to promote something. Ok rant over, we're glad to have you and everyone else that joined in our short existence.

I have always had an obsession with maps (I wanted to be a geography teacher when I was little)
So as soon as I saw the G1 had google maps AND street view, I had to have it.
Then I moved over to Verizon and of course I had to get the Droid...

Welcome aboard.
I also have a fondness for cartography... If you're ever in rome (more specifically the vatican) you should check out the hall of maps in the vatican's musuem... It was cooler then the sistine chapel...

hmm an archaeologist and a map person... sounds like we have an adventure brewing.

yo!

posted for a while on ac, followed dj on twitter and found this site. registering after reading "@djunio 90 guests at androidmixer.com/forums eh? Sign n introduce yourselves its free, quick n easy :-)"

;)

i work as a motion picture editor/producer/director in new zealand.

i've always been a google geek and evangelist of their products, so when the g1 came out it was just a logical, must-have purchase. even tho it wasn't released officially in my country, it was worth paying an exorbitant amount to parallel import it since my whole life was already in the google cloud.

also, being a windows/linux user in a creative industry i'm constantly being driven batshit crazy by apple products. i've always resented that people insist that macs are better for creative work purely because apple has successfully marketed them that way. if i ever want to feel patronized by a computer operating system, i'll use a mac. i hate how apple claim their iphone is revolutionary and how people call it the first smartphone when the htc apache and others were doing the same stuff almost 5 years earlier.

so yeah that's it i guess. through refusing to buy into the iphone because of my anti-apple sentiment, and my love of pre-existing google products, i became (i'm pretty sure anyway) the first android user in my country.

soon after getting my g1 i rooted and not much later after that i installed cyanogenmod. i now have a nexus one (also parallel imported) running some version or another of cyanogenmod. i used to stick to the stable releases but recently while waiting for 6.0 to drop i got addicted to flashing the nightlies.

cheers!
