Voice typing is not an entirely new feature for Ice Cream Sandwich, nor is it anything revolutionary. We are all aware of Android’s Voice-to-Text functionality and the ability to click the microphone icon on the keyboard to activate voice input.

In Android 4.0, this feature seems to be polished and refined. Do not expect to see huge improvements or changes. I always thought that the Android Voice Typing was fairly accurate in Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Although there were some minor inaccuracies during the live demo at the Samsung Unpacked event, I would not get worried.

I have been satisfied any time I have used the Voice-to-Text functionality in Android. The main changes come with the UI. The look of the “Listening” screen is slightly different to match the Ice Cream Sandwich styling and design, as seen in the above screenshot. Otherwise, expect this to be very familiar for those who have used Voice Typing in the past to send SMS, email, Google Talk messages, or many other types of input!
