I’m a huge proponent of the ringent nature of Android but moves like this puts a sour taste in my mouth. KDDI in Japan is now forcing ads on their wireless customers. The company has a third party marketplace preinstalled on their Android handsets and a recent update to the market now allows it to display ads directly in the notification bar. And of course there isn’t a way to replace this market unless you hack your device which most people aren’t willing to do so. Hopefully KDDI realizes this isn’t a good move soon and removes that capability. In the mean time, root your device and get the real Android Market on your device.
