Android tablets have recently taken the lead in tablet market share and Google will be making it easier for users to find apps designed for their newly purchased slate. On November 21st there will be a new Designed for Tablets section available in the Google Play Store. This is a huge opportunity for developers to gain exposure for their app. All they have to do is code in tablet support and they could make it to the main screen of the new section. The Sony Xperia Z1 Mini is finally official. The device will be launching later this year as the Sony Xperia Z1f. NTT DoCoMo in Japan will be getting the device first. It features the same specs as the larger Z1. The Snapdragon 800, 20.7MP camera, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage all make an appearance. The display is 4.3 inches and it has 720p resolution. We’re not sure when this device will make its way to other regions but we’re pretty sure it will not be a NTT DoCoMo exclusive device for long. Read the rest of this entry »


HTC will be officially unveiling the One Max at an event next week and we might have our first hint at what the fingerprint scanner would be used for. Of course HTC will likely use it as a security measure but it could also be used to launch apps. Images of what is said to be part of a setup to use your fingers to launch apps has leaked. It looks like you can set 10 different apps to launch with just a quick scan of one of your fingers. Reports are coming in that suggests Google is ready to end the Google TV branding. Android TV would be replacing Google TV in the upcoming set-top-boxes and televisions. This news is reported coming from an executive at a company who produces Google TV devices. There’s no word on what will happen with current Google TV devices, Google did promise select units would be updated from Honeycomb but we’re yet to see that. Google needs to do something to jump start Google TV adoption and maybe this move and better hardware could do just that. Read the rest of this entry »


Sony is said to be working on an update to Android 4.4 for the Xperia Z1. Rumors suggests the company could release the update as early as November 7th. The Xperia Z1 would be the first device from Sony to get the update and a few other Xperia handsets would be updated later that same month. Google has yet to officially release Kit Kat to the public and they are rumored to announce the new OS along with the Nexus 5 next week. If Sony can pull off an update so close to the release of the update, they would gain a huge advantage over the other Android OEM’s and Android users would love to receive an update that fast as well. LG has just announced a lower-end version of the G Pro. The G Pro Lite will be released soon and it should be an affordable phablet when it hits the market. Its powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.1.2, dual-SIM slots and an 8MP camera. LG will be launching the handset first in Latin America. QSAlpha has announced the Quasar IV Android smartphone will be launching soon. The device is built with security in mind. It has specialized software to help stomp hackers. If you backed the Indiegogo project you’ll be notified when you can reserve your device. The handset features a Snapdragon 800 processor, 13MP camera and it will ship with Android 4.3. QSAlpha has teamed with a popular OEM to produce the device and you can still add your support to the project and pick up a device with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Yesterday we showed you a leaked image with a few specs for this device and today it’s official. The Pantech Vega Secret Note is a go and its one attractive looking phablet. The device features 5.85 inch display, Android 4.2.2, 3200mAh battery, Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM. There’s also 32GB of internal storage and a 13MP camera and a fingerprint scanner. Today Samsung introduced a new device for sale in Japan. The Galaxy J is now official and it will be available in 3 different color for NTT DoCoMo. It features a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 2600mAh battery, Android 4.3, 5 inch 1080p display and its water and dust resistant. There’s no word on if this device would be released for other regions. Odds are, its not going to happen.
